I had spent the hot and humid day doing spring cleaning. Lugging out a winter’s accumulation of junk from the back room. One of those room clean outs where you take everything out of the room and make organized piles of the stuff, but don’t know where to put the piles once you’ve gotten them out….. I had just read an article about all the junk we accumulate and I was feeling pretty low about my inability to unload “stuff”. I was looking for an excuse to quit spring cleaning for the day. I won’t even post a picture of the piles…..
I was also feeling close to guilty for not having been on my bicycle since I got back from Massachusetts. I get that when I can’t seem to motivate to mount my trusty steed but I really want to, and know I should. I’m sure that you’ve had that feeling about something as well.
So here I was, feeling guilty and tired, and lo and behold, who walks in our door after arriving
silently and unbeknownst? My partner Roaming Gallivant! Yes! Sweet Zachary walks in, in full bike kit, (and what a figure he cuts in his kit!) after riding up the mountain from town. And guess what he wants to do? You guessed it. I checked my weather app and we decided to wait until the rain cell passed through and I would join him for the ride back to town.
I really didn’t have a choice. My need to ride was only overwhelmed by my jealousy that he was riding and I wasn’t…….
So off we roared (well, pedaled) into the steamy afternoon. The showers were dancing all around us. The roads alternated between wet and dry. The dogs didn’t run at us as much as bark as we lightly pedaled by. The only thing that didn’t fit in with the day were the cars. It was rush hour and all five cars we passed going the other way seemed in a hurry. The sky today was a painting in grays. The clouds weren’t billowing puffs, but horizontal geese flying. Well, that’s what they looked like to me, but really, they looked like grey feathers attached to a living entity. You can see Zachary here looking askance at my cloud observations. The greens were on the yellow side. Evening light and mid-spring makes them have that tinge. And this may come as a surprise, the roads were also shades of grey………
What impressed me today was that the ride seemed much easier to traverse. I like that. It means I’m rested and getting in shape. A delightful combination.
Another glorious bike ride on one of my favorite routes, a quick and easy ride to town. Zachary is really getting strong on his bike and it’s rewarding for both of us. Someday we will get his wife to join us, and she will shame both of us on the bikes.
But anyway, the ride went by too quickly, unfortunately, and we ended up at Zachary’s home. Time for an incredible brownie. Thank you Rebecca……
