Two days ago Zachary and I, with our good friend Aaron, rode a short but moderately difficult route in the local area. There was enough effort expended in the ride that we arrived home whupped and feeling great! The famous endorphin rush was in place and at work. I need to stretch after a ride like that and EAT SOMETHING immediately! And eat we did! A great barley soup and salad fit the bill! You know that it’s very important for muscle building to consume protein within 20 minutes of hard exertion in order for the effort to pay off. At least that’s what I’ve been told!
An important therapy after a ride like we did with Aaron, is a next day spin-out ride. For me it’s an affirmation that I still work, plus I feel that it keeps my muscles healing properly. I have no idea if there is scientific evidence that what I do is effective, but if I like it, it doesn’t really matter, does it? So Zachary joined me for a short easy ride today that was the epitome of a wonderful bicycle ride: good weather, a couple of great descents and a couple of mild climbs. And, when we arrived at our destination we added some healing therapy in that we consumed more barley soup!
